Glacier 10k and 1M NAOC JTRR/RRCA - THE VIRTUAL EDITION!
In view of the corona virus pandemic and the governor’s recent mandate requiring social distancing, JTTR has cancelled or postponed all upcoming races. But we are organizing virtual races to encourage people to stay healthy and get out and run, as long as it can be done consistent with state laws and CDC recommendations. To that end, if you sign up for a virtual race, you must adhere to the following:
- Comply with all CDC recommendations and the governor’s mandates regarding social distancing
- When running, or anytime outside your home, maintain at least six feet between yourself and any other person not in your immediate household
- Do not run if you are exhibiting signs of illness
- Do not carpool or ride share
Distances: 10 kilometers or 1 Mile
Registration Fee: $15 adult, $5 age 18 and under (our apologies for any fee mistakes in our email).
Race Director: Dwayne Duskin Jr, dduskin1@hotmail.com
Proceeds benefit the TMHS track team

Run the course and time yourself (to the second) any day from Saturday, March 28th, 2020 through Saturday, April 4th 2020. To be fair, please don't publicly post your results (no facebook, Strava, etc.) until the day after the race closes.
-
The standard courses will be marked, with both distances starting in the Mendenhall Glacier parking lot. Both the 10K and 1 mile are out and back, so the start and finish line is the same. The 1 mile course is out and back along the Glacier Spur Road. The 10K course is along the Glacier Spur Road and turns right onto the Back Loop Road. The turnaround is approximately .3 miles past the Montana Creek Road intersection. Head back along the same route.
-
If you are unable or do not wish to run the standard course, please run a no-vertical-loss 10K (6.21 miles), or 1 mile where you choose. Please run outdoors, unless a shelter-in-place order does not allow outdoor activity.
-
-
After your run, email the race director your race time. If you run faster than would be predicted by your race history, you may wish to provide a link or screen shot of your recorded run. Otherwise your word is good.

Age-graded Haines Fundraiser! JTRR fun run
Dec. 12th-27th, 2, 6 or 10 miles, anywhere you choose*, and more than two weeks to do it!
Yeah, you read that right, JTRR is doing a multi-distance, age-graded, virtual fun run!
And you can choose your own location, even if you are out-of town!
And all proceeds go to help victims of the Haines disaster! So much to love here.
When: Saturday, December 12th through Sunday, December 27th.
Your time/s must be submitted by midnight Monday, December 28th, 2020.
Course: 2, 6, or 10 miles, anywhere you choose, road or trail, *although your run must end
where it started to ensure zero elevation drop.
Cost: $10 per distance for runners of any age (fundraiser).
(Examples: 2 miler and 6 miler = $20, all three distances for $30.)
Please register using our Google form here (link repaired). If you'd like to donate extra for Haines, you can do that on our form, too. We'll make sure it gets there!
Do to constraints of our point calculation system, this is a "fun run" only. We do plan to post age-graded results based on "JTRR age", which is your age as of July 1, 2020, please. Runners will submit their actual time, and we'll convert using the USATF Age-grading tool for road running (even if you ran off-road). You have three weekends and the weekdays between to complete your runs. We hope that runners of all ages will enjoy the competing against a larger base than in our typical races. Check out the calculator!
Waiver and pandemic safety: All participants agree to and must comply with the revised Road Runners Club of America waiver, as found on this race's registration page (link above). Please register before you race, read and follow the waiver. Thank you!
Contact: Susan at jtrr.serr@gmail.com
All proceeds will be paid to JTRR as entry fees, then lump-donated by JTRR specifically for Haines disaster relief.
If you are interested in directing the Spring Tide Scramble race next year, please contact Susan at jtrr.serr@gmail.com

Juneau Marathon & Half Marathon is planned for Saturday, July 25th. Some info is here. Registration is here!
Special Note re. Virtual Racing
The JTRR Officers met on March 15th to talk about how to handle upcoming races in view of concerns about the spread of COVID-19. Two things are clear. First, running alone or with someone else who is fast enough to stay at least 10 feet ahead of you is among the best things you can do for your immune system as well as your mental and physical health. At the same time, we don’t want to promote the spread of the virus by sponsoring races where people gather close together in large groups.
The CDC is recommending cancelling or postponing all group gatherings of 50 or more. The Road Runners Club of America, of which the JTRR is a member, suggests moving to the idea of “virtual” races instead of completely canceling them. The JTRR officers are working with race directors to make this happen. For at least the next eight weeks, we will not be promoting traditional races where everyone starts at the same time.
So, what is a virtual race? The details will vary from race to race, but the idea is that you will register on-line or by mail or perhaps at drop-off locations, run the race during a time frame set by the race director, and email your race time to the director before the set deadline. We will post the results on the JTRR website and award NAOC points as usual. What could be easier? As each race director decides how to conduct their race, we will put the information on the JTRR website, and we will continue to try to send out an alert for each race via this address. So check back often or contact the race director for more information.
In the meantime, stay safe, wash your hands often, elbow bump your friends, and keep running!
JTRR Co-President Keith Levy
